Heroes and Villains: The Miniseries Episode 1

Do you love action packed movies or series with heroes and villains and superpowers and everything in between?

Then come closer, let me give you a virtual hug because we do have something in common, yo.

Anyways, How have you been since the last post?

I do hope you’re fine and if you’re not that at the end of this, you feel better even if it’s only a teeny weeny tiny …

Okay okay, let’s get to it.

So after rewatching Avengers: Endgame for the gazillionth time (you should watch it if you have not; seriously, but start from the very first Avenger movie, okay?”), I thought about what it’d be like to yunno learn and share a little bit about my favorite heroes, not so favorites but still heroes and of course the villains (because there’s no good guy without a bad guy), so I threw it out there and I got responses on who people would like to see here on the blog. (Thanks for the feedback), so that is why I’m starting a miniseries based on request and will be talking about one hero and one villain (antihero as the case may be) in each post.

Isn’t it exciting?

Let’s jump right into it then.

The duo for today … (drum roll)

BATMAN AND CATWOMAN

Should I start with the hero?

Of course that’s where I’ll start…

Or we could just do this alphabetically (same difference lol)

BATMAN

  • The character “Batman” was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger.
  • Publisher: DC comics
  • “Batman” first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (cover date May 1939 /release date March 30, 1939)
  • Place of Origin: Gotham city.
  • Alter ego: Bruce Wayne; a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and owner of Wayne Enterprises. Batman originated from an incident in Bruce’s childhood; after witnessing the murder of his parents Dr. Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne, he swore vengeance against criminals, an oath tempered by a sense of justice.
  • Superpowers: Batman does not possess any inhuman superpowers.
  • Abilities: Genius intellect, Expert detective, Skilled martial artist and hand-to-hand combatant, Utilizes high-tech equipment
  • Notable Aliases: Dark Knight, The World’s Greatest Detective, Caped Crusader
  • Technology: Batsuit (personal armor),
  • Batman’s utility belt (containing Batman’s field equipment)
  • Batmobile (Batman’s primary vehicle)
  • Bat-signal (searchlight with a bat-shaped insignia over the lens, activated by the Gotham city police when Batman is needed)
  • Batcave (Batman’s secret headquarters)

Now, here are some facts that you and I probably didn’t know about this hero;

  • Batman’s secret identity, Bruce Wayne, was derived from two historical figures;

Robert the Bruce, a Scottish national hero and Mad Anthony Wayne, a hero of the American Revolution..

  • Batman’s online screen name is JonDoe297.
  • There’s a real course called The Science of Batman at the University of Victoria in Canada.
  • In the comics, courtesy of his butler Alfred, we know that Bruce’s favourite food is mulligatawny soup, . For those of you that don’t know, mulligatawny soup is a spicy soup usually made with meat, vegetables, rice, and curry spices. (I didn’t know either too)
  • Bruce Wayne speaks over 40 languages (me, counting how many I learnt after English)
  • Batman writer Bill Finger said he came up with the name Gotham City by opening up a phone book and randomly putting his finger on “Gotham Jewelers.”
  • The creation of Batman was inspired by Zorro and Dracula
  • Bruce Wayne is technically the owner of the newspaper that Clark Kent (Superman) works at; the Daily Planet. In the Batman: Hush storyline, the Daily planet was named as a daughter company of Wayne Entertainments.
  • Bruce Wayne’s IQ is 192.
  • Forbes estimates Bruce Wayne aka Batman’s net worth to be in the region of $9.2 billion, while the Bruce Enterprises is said to have an annual revenue of $31.3 billion. (screaming “Money” by Cardio B)

A look at some of the Actors Who Have Played Batman in TV and the movies, as well as his animated avatars!

From left to right: Lewis G. Wilson, Robert Lowery, Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, Will Arnett, Ben Affleck

Robert Pattinson will be playing the role of Batman in the movie ‘The Batman’ scheduled to be out on June 25, 2021.

Now the question is who is my favorite Batman (For now; I’m sticking with Ben Affleck (his role as Batman in Justice League did it for me), but let’s see what Pattinson can do next year)

Who is your favorite Batman actor?

CATWOMAN

  • The character “Catwoman” was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger .
  • Publisher: DC comics.
  • First appearance: Debuting as “the Cat” in Batman #1 (Spring 1940)
  • Alter ego: Selina Kyle, Selina Calabrese.
  • Superpowers: Catwoman does not possess any inhuman superpower.
  • Abilities: Expert burglar, Skilled hand-to-hand combatant, Skilled gymnast, Utilizes bullwhips, sharp retractable claws, and climbing pitons.
  • Catwoman is a Gotham City burglar who typically wears a tight, one-piece outfit and uses a bullwhip for a weapon. She was originally characterized as a supervillain and adversary of Batman, but she has been featured in a series since the 1990s which portrays her as an antiheroine, often doing the wrong things for the right reasons.
  • Catwoman remains Batman’s best-known love interest.
  • Occasionally a villain, sometimes a hero, and usually both, Catwoman is more antihero than villain.

What you may or may not know:

  • Before she was Catwoman, Selina Kyle was the Cat, and, lacking a skin-tight body suit and goggles, she dressed up like an old lady to steal stuff.
  • During Batman Eternal, Selina Kyle found out that she was the daughter of Rex Calabrese, head of the Calabrese crime family.
  • Maggie Kyle is the younger sister of Selina Kyle, the Catwoman. Unlike her villainous sister, Maggie is a nun.
  • Everyone hated the 2004 Catwoman movie (even Halle Berry who played the titular character).
  • There’s been more than one Catwoman (it’s time to hit the comics, y’all)
  • She formed a team with Poison ivy and. Harley Quinn. (if you like to read novels, , I’d love to recommend Catwoman:Soulstealer by Sarah.J.Maas)
  • Other than Wonder Woman, Catwoman is easily DC’s most famous and well-regarded female character and has become a feminist icon.

Movies/TV shows featuring/starring Catwoman

  • Batman series (1966)
  • Batman: The movie (1966)
  • Batman returns (1992)
  • Catwoman (2004)
  • The Dark Knight rises (2012)
  • Gotham series(2014-2019)
  • The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

So, while I don’t have a best Catwoman portrayal yet, here are some actresses who have played the role in movies and series.

You should also watch some of the animated portrayals of Catwoman (I, for one, like Batman: Hush)

Zoe Kravitz has been cast to play the role of Catwoman in director Matt Reeves’ 2021 film “The Batman,” which also stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped crusader.

Excited????????????????

P.s. Can I just say I completely ship The Bat and The Cat?

And so we have come to the end of this episode of the Heroes and Villains miniseries.

Did you like it?

Anything you’d like to tell me about these characters too?

Wanna knows what duo is up for the next episode?

I can’t believe this episode is over already (wipes teary eyes)

Till next time on the H and V miniseries.

Stay safe. And take up that comic.

Bye.

  2. Perfect as usual, this made me intrigued & calm at the same time. You missed the “Gotham” series though, you didn’t introduce Batman in that but you did for Catwoman, still beautiful. Can’t wait for the next H&V episode👏🏾.
